Including more music and singing in our lives can influence our emotions and help to:
Singing is a great form of expression and can help increase confidence. Musical education is said to help children improve their academic skills, encouraging them to use multiple skill sets by co-ordinating listening and singing with movement.
The reason we get a feel good factor when singing and listening to music we like is because of the release of endorphins into our body. Endorphins are natural substances released by the body that can effect emotion and help relieve the sensation of pain. When we are relaxed endorphins are released more readily and it is this function that makes it an effective tool during pregnancy and birth.
During HypnoBirthing classes mums and their birthing partners are encouraged to sing throughout pregnancy to help bond with baby and also to help with the onset of labour. In one London hospital "Womb Song" workshops are available with mums learning about breathing and posture and singing simple songs such as "Hush Little Baby" to bond with their babies. One first time mum commented that she "sang all the way through her labour"
Being relaxed through the birthing process allows mum to have a more natural, comfortable birth and provides a stress free entry into the world for baby.
